In the context of ornamental art symbolization the article considers the horse harness (bit, psalia, bridle, breast-collar crupper, and other elements of horse equipment) as a sociocultural phenomenon expressing specifics of nomads’ mentality by means of the art of decoration. The research understands the archaic arts and crafts as a system of symbols. It is shown that the zoomorphic ornament in archaic arts and crafts is used as a symbol of recurrence of life, fertility, wealth, power and freedom.
