Specific features of symbolism and semantics of traditional Korean images

The author provides a philosophical analysis of cultural dynamics impact on transformation of symbolic meaning of traditional Korean images. Having a typology of culture, developed by A.Ya. Flier (pre-classical, classical, nonclassical and post-nonclassical culture) as a reference, the author analyses the main stages in the development of Korean culture and their unique features, as well as the reasons for the transition from period to period. Moreover, the main vectors of development of Korean cultures are studied. It is described, how cultural dynamics influenced the specifics of traditional Korean images. The main characteristics of traditional Korean images are determined. It is concluded that the polysemantic nature as well as artistic and religious essence of traditional Korean imagery provide integration of traditional images into modernity and make cultural texts containing a traditional component more accessible to a recipient from a different cultural tradition.
