Symbol potential of phraseological units with the zoonym component

This article is devoted to phraseological units with the zoonym component and their use in everyday speech. In addition, we conducted the analysis of the data of phraseological units that characterize a person, both from positive and negative sides. Several randomly selected phraseological units from the “English-Russian Phraseological Dictionary” by A.V. Kunin are analyzed. Zoonyms presented in the article are associated with the images of wild and domestic animals, as well as insects and reptiles. Based on the work done, we concluded that it is necessary to study phraseological units to enrich the language, and it is necessary to use them in speech with great care.
