The article examines the prospects of combining the advantages of active and educational tourism with the aim of creating an attractive tourist product, especially for young people. The example of the Vladimir region and the Perm region shows that the synergy of educational and active tourism allows us to open new opportunities for the development of small Russian cities. It was concluded that the inclusion of educational programs with active tourism elements in the regional event calendar makes it possible to ensure a steady influx of tourists into the region and a more even distribution of the load, and can also contribute to the growth of youth's interest in Russian small towns as tourist destinations and places for living. The article was implemented with the financial support of the grant of the Russian Science Foundation (project No. 17-18-01324) "Sustainable development of the economy of territories based on the network interaction of small towns and regional centers."
