The main content of the article is «Sino-Tibetan Buddhist Studies» as a new research approach in the field of Buddhist studies of the world. It is shown that the ideological and political context of modern China is a principal factor that determinate the origin of this scientific discipline, but there are many subjects and problems that makes it potentially very important. The contribution of Sino-Tibetan Buddhist studies not simply lie in the historical studies of Chinese and Tibetan Buddhism. The other approach of development ofSino-tibetan studies is the comparative analyses of the Chinese and the Tibetan Canons.
