The synthesis of media criticism and media education in the published works of S. N. Penzin

The paper studies the pedagogical heritage of an outstanding Russian scientist S. N. Penzin. In our country he is widely known for his media educational activities, but his media critical publications are studied to a lesser extent. Having considered the concept of media criticism and its types and having analyzed S.N. Penzin' s media critical publications, the author comes to the conclusion that S.N. Penzin was not only a prominent innovator of media education, but a media critic as well. In his work he sought to mass forms of media education, and the publication of media critical articles was one of the most effective forms of mass media education.
