The study deals with one of the most intense contemporary conflicts and related regional and international challenges. Based on Russian and international research, the authors analyze the UK’s position and the policy of the British government on the Syrian crisis. The emphasis is placed on the fact that the UK adopts the approach of the United States and takes a very negative attitude to the Assad regime. In the researchers’ opinion, this situation is determined by not only the UK’s commitment to support its transatlantic ally but also the political as well as social and economic reasons, in particular the interests of British MNCs. The authors conclude that the UK, which dominated the Middle East in the first half of the 20th century, wants to strengthen its position in the region by its involvement in the resolution of the Syrian crisis. British-Russian relations are considered in the context of the Syrian conflict, and the opposing views of the states on its solution are discussed as well.
