Describes a methodology for the assessment of food security of the State. Food independence of the Russian Federation is considered as sustainable domestic food production in amounts not less than the prescribed threshold values his share of commodity resources of domestic market relevant products. Food independence of the State eliminates external political pressure. The article presents the formula for the calculation of the level of food independence for the individual product groups. Invited to integrate separate levels of food independence has been obtained using a geometric average.
