Higher education system in the Republic of Korea history and current status

This article reviews the development of the higher education system in the Republic of Korea after the country gained independence in 1948. The author notes that the organization of educational process in higher educational institutions is based on the American model, with its specific features. It was stressed that education is crucial for the future well-being of each of its Korean and promoting the social ladder. The disadvantages of the system of higher education in the Republic of Korea, the author considers excessive standardization of the learning process encouraging students to rote learning of information, facilitated and assessment criteria. This feature is associated with traditional Confucian education system, which plays an important role by heart the knowledge of classic texts.
