The study was based on the results of examination and treatment of 335 elderly and senile patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia who underwent simultaneous surgeries at the Division of Urology of the Samara Regional Clinical Hospital for Veterans of Wars between 1995 and 2015. The main group comprised 179 patients who underwent transurethral resection of the prostate. The control group was composed of 156 patients who underwent transvesical adenomectomy. Constant improvement of diagnostic and treatment procedures contributed to a significant reduction in the frequency of postoperative complications and lethal outcomes in the main group compared to the control group. The results of treatment were significantly better in patients from the main group in the second (87.6 %) and the third (94.4%) period of treatment.
