Undoubtedly, interrogations take the central place in legal proceedings. Their purpose is recording of testimony (given by an eyewitness, a victim, an accused or a suspected) as a type of evidence. The interrogation records of the Catherine II period, which are stored in the State Archive of the Tyumen region, show that the procedure of questioning is a complex mechanism and has some stages. The actions of an assessor send on a mission, on the one hand, were strictly regulated by the instruction, on the other hand, they could be independent, but within the law. In each case the territorial court representatives had to resolve a private issue requiring individual approach and professionalism, first of all.
