All important monographs of V. V. Sedov devoted some attention tothe antiquities of the sopka-type burial mound culture. As new artifacts and new conceptsappeared some of the scholar's views and sometimes his main statements were revisited.Terminology and the location area of the sites, their correlation with other antiquities wereexpanded and specified, the periodization of the sopka-type burial mounds was currentlyunder way. V. V. Sedov decided not to use the classification of the sopka-type burialmounds into three types that he had originally suggested. The time when the ancestorsof the sopka-type burial mound population arrived in the Lake Ilmen region has beensubstantially modified and is presently viewed as the period starting from the second wavecoming from the Lower Vistula and the Oder valleys in the 6th-7th centuries to participationin a large stream of the Middle Europe population in the middle of the 1st mill.
