Word-formation activity of colloquial verbal units in modern German

The article is devoted to word-formation activity that is understood as the ability of word-building elements and word-formation models to be regularly involved into formation of new lexical units. The article presents identification of productive word-formation models of German colloquial verbal units with spatial particles and the analysis of word- formation capacity of models and their variants. With the method of quantification the word- formation models are distributed into three groups: highly active models, active models and limitedly active models. The studies of derivational activity of both adverbial particles and base morphemes, that are involved in the formation of the verbal units, resulted in distinguishing the most active and the factors that influence their activity (morphological characteristics of the word base, morphemic structure of a stem, polysemantic character of a derivational base). It was proved that the activity of a word building component is directly coordinated with the activity of its word building model. However, the variability of word building models with a certain adverbial particle is not connected with the potential activity of the models. The author also points to semantic and stylistic features of base morphemes that are actively involved in the formation of the German colloquial verb units with spatial adverbial particles.
