The difficult journey of the North Stream - 2

The article discusses the difficult path of implementing the Nord Stream 2 project. Nord Stream 2 was intended to transport Russian gas directly across the Baltic Sea to Germany, adding additional opportunities for Russian gas imports to Europe along with the existing Nord Stream 1 pipeline and pipelines through Ukraine and Belarus. Nord Stream 2 can help reduce the electricity shortage in Europe and reduce gas prices, however, from the very beginning of the construction of the gas pipeline, a group of countries has put forward a number of claims, stating that this undermines Europe's energy security and will lead to a strengthening of Russia's role in the global economy, introducing additional sanctions, complicating the implementation of this project.
