Listening as a cultural value in Russia

This article proceeds from the premise on the interconnection between culture and listening, with special attention paid to listening as an integral part of communication within the framework of Russian culture. The nature of listening is discussed using Lotman and Uspensky ’ s dualist model, as well as the ideas of Bakhtin, Gadamer and Levinas. The ethical aspect of listening and its importance for more harmonious communication are emphasized.
