"Exchanges" of exiled narodniks on their way to Siberia

The article is dedicated to «exchanges» - tradition of criminal exiles to exchange their names on their way to Siberia. The author shows how this tradition was used by political exiles (narodniks), sentenced to penal labor, in order to free themselves. The subject of the study is the scale of the occurrence, government’s reaction to its spread, and consequences for future of political exiles.
