In this article, based on the materials of the periodicals of the First World War and theological theoretical works, the author makes an attempt to look at the exploits of the military clergy and the soldiers of the Russian Imperial Army through the prism of the story of the healing of the centurion’s servant of Capernaum (Matthew 8:5-13). Orthodox regimental priests, like the Roman centurion, demonstrated humility and strength of their faith, feeling responsibility and showing love for their neighbors - the soldiers and officers of the army of the Russian Empire, which fought for the faith, the Tsar and the Fatherland on the fronts of the First World War. The military clergy in the armed forces of the Russian Empire were the most important link in the religious education of soldiers, which they needed to maintain a fighting spirit. Specific examples demonstrate the high moral character of Russian soldiers who showed themselves by performing feats inspired by faith in God. It is proved that where the heroic behavior of Russian soldiers took place, there was a connection with the most important Christian virtues, which were sacredly revered by Orthodox soldiers. In addition, the regimental priests, by their example of self-sacrifice and the strength of faith, inspired the military personnel with confidence in an inevitable victory over the enemy.
