The paper examines the teaching of the prominent Russian philosopher Vladimir Solovyov on love as a natural feeling that can lead a person to union with God. Traditionally, Russian philosophers considered brotherly love (agape) as a natural foundation that leads man to God, which, however, is to be supported by religious faith. In turn, V. Solovyov attempted to justify the sexual love (eros), showing that being a natural and spontaneous feeling, this type of love has an inherent potential of “divination” of man. The article analyzes the key points of Solovyov’s theory of love that are androgynism, spiritual physicality and Godmanhood as three phases of unification of the separated elements in the empirical world: masculine and feminine, body and soul, man and God.
