Social Activity of Traditional Religious Organizations within the Framework of Religion–State Relations

The article analyzes religious activity as one of the components of religion. It can be both cultic and non-cultic. Non-cultic activity of religious organizations is of particular interest in this study. At the current stage of societal development, non-cultic activity of religious organizations involve missionary work, charity, religious education, assistance to vulnerable social groups, and much more. In scientific studies, this type of activity has been termed “social activity”. The state pays great attention to non-worship practice of religious organizations, supporting them in various ways. The article provides examples of such activity in traditional religious organizations, particularly social work in the penitentiary system. It is emphasized that Orthodox, Islamic, and Judaistic religious organizations have developed the principles of social activity.
