The article is devoted to the actual topic - social and legal significance of digital media for recording information in criminal proceedings. Modern society is impossible without digital media. There are strong debates in mass media and scientific community regarding the benefits and dangers of this method of fixation. The majority of methods using photo- and videoshooting in legal proceedings in Russia is stipulated in legislation and applied in investigative practices, expertise and operational investigations. The use of technical means of fixation during the investigative actions serves as evidence. It is recognized as admissible in case of its compliance with the statutory procedures of investigation actions for fixation of which are used technical means. In recent times, the dynamic development of this sector is facing problems of legal regulation.
