Social work in a correctional institution and its role in the transformation of the penitentiary society

The article analyzes the issues related to the implementation of social work in relation to convicts serving a sentence of imprisonment. The place of such work is determined in the system of penitentiary prevention implemented by the domestic penal enforcement system, which, despite the change in socio-economic conditions in the country, continues to be different from foreign models. First of all, it concerns a specific social education, which has no analogues in foreign penitentiary practice - the penitentiary society. Its presence creates a certain kind of difficulties in the implementation of many social programs of penitentiary prevention. At the same time, social work with convicts is one of the important means of their correction. The conducted research has shown that recently there has been a tendency to transform the assessment of the role of social work with convicts by the penitentiary society. It can be assumed that this kind of transformation can be used by the administration of correctional institutions to improve the quality of social work with convicts serving a sentence of imprisonment.
