Social significance of post-industrial leisure

Бесплатный доступ

The article deals with the problem of assessing the social significance of leisure in the context of a post-industrial society formation, in which physical labor gives way to the dominant intellectual and creative work. It is shown that the modern argumentation of the social value of leisure justification differs from the interpretations of leisure accepted in the industrial era only as a time for restoring the forces necessary for a person in the implementation of labor functions. Today, this argument is equally recognized by domestic and foreign researchers. Nevertheless, in the context of the analysis of socio-cultural changes caused by the formation of a post-industrial society, fundamental differences in approaches are revealed. Russian authors mainly focus on the creative development of the individual in the field of leisure, without paying much attention to the social and economic significance of leisure practices. Foreign authors seek to link the main personal (well-being) and social (including economic efficiency, social control, etc.) advantages of leisure. It is concluded that the social significance of leisure in the post-industrial era is determined by its ability not only to restore human strength, but also to ensure the overall growth of its well-being, the necessary social control and economic efficiency.
