Socio-economic analysis of the eating habits of the gastronomic space of St. Petersburg

The paper is focused on the questions of notion of taste and its formation. The features of the emergence of gastronomic preferences within the framework of social classes are determined. The gastronomic space of St. Petersburg is investigated from the point of view of the citizens’ main taste preferences and the specifics of their historical transformation, as a result, a gastronomic portrait of the city has been compiled. The results of the analysis of everyday nutritional practices of people living in St. Petersburg are presented. On the basis of empirical research and statistical data from Rosstat and Petrostat, the food structure in this metropolis was revealed. Particular attention is paid to the processes of social differentiation of nutrition. The information on the following thematic blocks: purchasing food, proper nutrition, catering and tastes is collected. The modern tendency of consumption of food products of a St. Petersburg citizen is considered. The work was carried out in the general field of the sociology of nutrition.
