The article examines the problems of the socio-economic development of the USSR in the 1920s-1930s XX century. The characteristic of such periods of history as NEP (new economic policy), industrialization and collectivization is given. Specific facts of the development of the state and problems that subsequently led to mass demonstrations, famine, but, nevertheless, to ways to overcome the world economic crisis of 1929 and attempts to build a communist society are given. The USSR turned into a great industrial power that managed to defeat the most terrible evil on Earth - fascism, which in the shortest possible time managed to turn its society from a backward and illiterate country into the most reading country in the world. The USSR was the first country to conquer space, a country that made the greatest discoveries in science, art and sports.
