The study deals with the origins and nature, causes and peculiarities of the conflict situation in the modern Russian society and its political system. In the authors’ opinion, the diverse social conflicts in the post-Soviet Russia are due to the complex interaction of divergent trends in the society’s development and different contradictions that are associated with the intertwining of the pre-Soviet, Soviet and liberal market types of social processes. The research highlights that the persistent conflict-prone nature of the Russian society is considerably aggravated by the ongoing inability to choose the country’s development strategy and ways of regulating contradictions. Besides, the situation is obviously exacerbated by the incomplete modernization reforms of the country leading to the permanent lack of collaboration between the social institutions and political ones, the weak regulatory mechanisms, the persistent social polarization in society, the social tension, the strategic fragility of the economic development. As a result, marginalization and the substantial social disparity immanently generate social and political contradictions, keep the transitional nature of the Russian society at large and transmit it to the future.
