The study discusses the social well-being of the Evens, an ethnic group of the Arctic zone of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), based on a sociological survey of the indigenous peoples in the Ust-Yansky District in September 2018. The paper highlights the main social problems that concern the Evens in this region. The research identifies and analyzes the key factors in decreasing their social well-being and quality of life. The study proves that the modern arrangement of traditional natural resource use helps preserve and develop the traditional life models of the indigenous peoples of the North by granting them a wider set of rights and authorities in this field. The author determines that the state should provide the legal support for reindeer herding, fishery, hunting and other businesses of the Evens and the creation of tribal and family communities.
