The aim of the article is to analyze the social well-being of the residents of the post-Soviet monotown within the framework of the socio-cultural approach. The modern Russian single-industry town is considered as a product of the Soviet era, undergoing significant transformations of the organization model of settlements of this type. It is shown that economic and managerial approaches in their study are limited since the historical and socio-cultural context of the emergence and transformation of single-industry towns is practically not taken into account. The emphasis on economic indicators leads to the fact that the civilizational specifics of the formation and transformation of (post-)Soviet single-industry towns are virtually ignored. The social well-being of the post-Soviet monotown's residents is an indicator of the real subjective attitude to socio-economic changes. The indicators of social well-being are the satisfaction of social life conditions in a monotown; the evaluation of economic situation in a single-industry town; the future image and development prospects of a monotown; migration intentions of the population. The empirical basis of the study of social well-being was the data of official statistics and reporting; a group interview with local residents conducted in August 2018; data of a sociological survey organized in the territory of Sokol, the Vologda Oblast in October 2018. The method of measurement is a survey at the place of respondents' residence. The sample size is 500 people aged 18 years and older. The sampling error does not exceed 3%. The representativeness of sociological information was ensured by the use of a model of a multistage sampling with quota selection of observation units by sex and age composition of the population; random selection of respondents by questionnaires according to specified quotas. The results of the study revealed a low degree of satisfaction with the social conditions of life in thesingle-industry town. Assessment of the monotown's economic situation indicates a negative perception of the situation by residents. The residents of the single-industry town associate its future image and development prospects with the enterprise's efficiency; migration intentions of the population indicate a high level of rootedness. The residents' social well-being clearly demonstrates the level of their adaptation to the socio-economic changes occurring during the transformation process.
