Social features of the terror victims in Altai region, 1935-1937: analysis of database and archive materials

The paper is focused on regional specifics of the Terror campaigns in the USSR in the mid-1930s. The main aim is the analysis of social characteristics of the Terror victims in Altai Region (1935-1937). The two main sources of the research are the database "The Victims of Political Terror in the USSR" and the database made by the author and dedicated to the investigated cases of the victims. The author analyzes the features of sources and provides the results of the analysis of the Terror dynamics. The second part of the paper dwells on social characteristics of the Terror victims, such as social origin, party membership, level of education, army service experience, previous and next repressions. The author suggests that regional repressions were linked to national campaigns which were similar to the mass operations of the "Great Terror" period. The author defines regional specifics of small terror campaigns and claims that agricultural workers were the largest group of victims. Social origin, army service experience and level of education played a certain role in the final sentence.
