The article analyzes the phenomenon of pseudoscience and the sphere of its influence in the final quarter of the 21st century. It is emphasized the social and political significance of such an analysis both in the current situation and in the context of studying the demarcation of scientific and non-scientific knowledge. A comparative analysis reveals the diversity of forms of pseudoscience manifestation, especially in the media. These imply the need for scientific media literacy, which will make it possible to effectively assess the reliability of scientific information. A major challenge in developing effective verification procedures in the media and social media is impossibility of thoroughly examining information, as time is limited in a rapidly changing environment. Regular reproduction of pseudoscientific ideas can maintain its popularity and persist in human culture for a long time period. However, this does not reduce the epistemological and philosophical significance of studying this phenomenon. Enthusiasm for science and optimism about innovation currently coexist with misinformation and skepticism toward experts. To counter the consequences of this polarization civil society expects scientists to not only justify the relevance and usefulness of their work, but also anticipate public inquiry.
