Social problems of the Altai region: basic aspects and solutions

The article deals with the main social problems facing the Altai region. The author justifies the demo- graphic situation in the region and analyses the indexes of population living standards in comparison with other Russian territories. Typical characteristics of personnel and housing supplies are identified, reasons for insufficient social responsibility of employers to the economically active population are viewed. The author points out main factors which restrain the growth of living standards. Special attention is paid to the character- istics of the regional conditions for social-economic development.
