The aim of the work is to analyze the protests in Moldova in 2009 for the purpose of using social networks to achieve certain political goals. The article examines the historical context and the main actors of the "twitter revolution" in Moldova, identifies the main platforms and tools of digital diplomacy used by the protesters; assesses the success of using various techniques and tools of digital diplomacy in achieving the goals set by the participants; identifies the key risks of the "twitter revolution" participants; and assesses the impact of these events on the further development of digital diplomacy and social networks as a tool for achieving political goals. As a result of the work, a conclusion is made about the effectiveness of social networks as a tool for attracting the attention of the world community to the problems and events taking place in the state. Thanks to the experience of the "twitter revolution" in Moldova, the world community has rethought the role of social networks in world politics and diplomacy, and the very concept of "twitter revolution" has appeared.
