The social context of a new media space

The research considers a new modern media space as a factor of information and social inequality in Russia. The authors examine communication technologies and strategies used by social institutions in the context of the new communication practices related to the transformation of the Russian media space. Modern media space is presented as a special reality that is a part of the communicative space and arranges social practices and representations of agents included in the system of social production and consumption of mass information. A study of mass media influence on social space is particularly important at the present stage of the society development. Media space as a universal system of relations among mass communication consumers always takes the form of social structures within which it operates. The research presents the concept of media space as a self-organizing subsystem of the information and communication universe from the standpoint of the social context
