Social mechanism of historical memory functioning

The article is devoted to solving the problem of sociological research of historical memory functioning. The subject of the analysis is the social processes of its functioning. On the basis of the logical and conceptual method and structural and functional approach, the article describes the social mechanism of historical memory functioning, which is multilevel by subjects and system multicomponent by social processes. As a result of the conducted fundamental sociological research, this social mechanism is presented as a unity of interconnected and interdependent social processes: content determination, preservation, reproduction and translation of historical knowledge, assessments, norms, symbols and values. The authors pay special attention to the justification of the need to manage the process of functioning of historical memory and introduce the concept of “the norm of functioning of historical memory” into the scientific circulation of sociology for the empirical measurement of how a social group preserves, reproduces and translates the content of national memory.
