Social portrait of the Russian middle manager

The article provides a social portrait of a typical middle manager, based on results of the survey of 481 business employees in 18 sectors of the Russian economy. It is shown that a typical middle manager is a woman (71,5% of respondents) in the age of 20-40 years (79,8%) with higher education (57%), officially married (59,1%), that has the income above the average one (85%) and her own housing (58,5%). Most of the typical middle managers are working in the sphere of sales and marketing. A successful person for a typical middle manager is that one, who has high goals, achieves them and maximally realizes his potential. 75% of respondents said that the main component of the category of success is a happy personal or family life, more than half of them mentioned inner harmony with themselves. Hierarchy of values and goals that determines the success of middle managers is represented by three distinct clusters - personal values (family, friends); individual values (work, self-actualization) and abstract universal values (practical wisdom, development and freedom).
