The cultural sphere relies on state social and cultural policy. In this context, the project activities of cultural institutions are of great importance. They help to use a systematic approach to the development of organizations in the cultural sphere, develop new cultural proposals, and implement innovative solutions. Project activities in the cultural sphere have their own specifics. Theaters, philharmonic societies, libraries, folk art centers, cultural and leisure institutions, children's art schools offer their audience different types and formats of project initiatives. Each direction has its own characteristics. How successful projects affect the positioning of the organization in society, the relationship with the target audience, the public, the professional community. The topic of using the project approach, expanding project activities is becoming increasingly relevant for various cultural institutions. However, in practice, socio-cultural design is not used enough. The importance of knowing project management tools, successful practices and cases is due to the need to use new forms of work and attract extra-budgetary funding for project initiatives. Understanding the issues of using project activities in the field of culture and its role in the development of cultural institutions are in demand both from a scientific point of view and for applied purposes. The use of the project approach and project management methods complements the existing management system of budgetary organizations in the field of culture. Thanks to the implementation of cultural projects, urgent social problems are solved, various creative ideas are realized. Therefore, the introduction of project technologies into the practice of cultural institutions provides many opportunities for the implementation of socially significant cultural initiatives, allows increasing the level of events and attract additional or extra-budgetary sources of funding. At the same time, the problem of the competence of employees of cultural institutions in the field of socio-cultural design and project management, misunderstanding of the specifics of project activities and their difference from current work remains relevant.
