Sociocultural design principles in the context of Victor Papanek's theoretical positions

The article deals with the approaches of design-design and preproject analysis formulated in the theoretical works of Victor Papanek: “six part functional complex”, “triad of limitations”, “five principles of design”, and characterizes their sociocultural value. The question of real social significance of the design object and the search for a balance between its functional and aesthetic components is highlighted. Analyzes the role and place of design principles of Papanek in the context of global transformation processes of design activity in the XXI century. The paper reveals how Papanek’s principles correspond to the contemporary level of informational and technological, social and cultural development of society, as well as the applicability of the researcher’s ideas in virtual space. The significance of communication skills, versatile training and critical thinking among contemporary designers of spatial environments are highlighted. The issues of responsible design both at the level of “museum design” and in the space of everyday, familiar things are discussed.
