Sociocultural settings as determinants of a person's criminal behavior (in the context of penal system)

The authors give interpretation of criminality in the context of interactionist approach. The article illustrates influence of national sociocultural settings on the Russian penitentiary system. The dynamics of social ill-being indicators, including drug addiction, are taken into account. The authors draw the conclusion that sociocultural settings, as determinants of a person's behavior, are more effective than the mechanism of state legal impact.
