The article is aimed at identifying the most significant elements that determine the modern social and cultural context of the development of the bard song movement in the Republic of Crimea. The research material is presented mainly by articles on the history of the movement, biographies, interview recordings and electronic resources created and maintained by bards themselves. Documents related to the participants of the Crimean regional bard community were studied. The theoretical and methodological basis of the study was a comprehensive approach, the basis of which was the use of contextual-interpretative analysis; the sociocultural approach and the biographical method were also used. The first step towards achieving the aim was to identify the most significant elements of the bard song phenomenon as a whole, which made it possible to link the regional specifics of the movement with the general characteristics of the phenomenon. Further, based on biographical sources containing testimonies and recollections of direct participants in the historical events under consideration, the emergence and development of the main organizations that formed the basis of the regional bard movement that took place in the late Soviet period were reconstructed. At the same time, special attention was paid to the disclosure of the role of the evolution of technical means of recording and playing audio and video materials as an important aspect of the history of the phenomenon. Meanwhile, it is emphasized that the development of communication tools and distribution of musical materials did not change the priority of personal communication among the representatives of the movement. The study demonstrated that the modern bard movement of the Republic of Crimea continues to exert a significant influence on the social and cultural processes of the region. The author points to the wide possibilities of using the bard song to transform the regional cultural landscape. It was established that the bard song of Crimea retains many trends that formed in the second half of the twentieth century and at the same time successfully adapts to modern realities, still having significant social relevance. The tendency to contrast the bard song with “mass” music, which was also characteristic of the Soviet period, is quite clearly traced. It is noted that the holding of festivals, concerts, apartment concerts, camps remains the main form of creative activity of the bard community of Crimea.
