Sociocultural status of the roman emperor as "father of the Fatherland"

The image of a father-ruler in the Ancient Roman culture is analyzed in the article. It is revealed that the title of the emperors - "father of the fatherland" - can refer to the functions of a founder of the state, saviour of his people from external enemies, state priest, benefactor of his subjects.
