The article presents the results of an applied study of social discontent in modern Russian society. The author proposes a theoretical framework for studying discontent as a sociological phenomenon, supported by data obtained during the implementation of a mass online survey of Russians, as well as comparing them with a number of authoritative studies of public opinion. The article considers various factors that determine the level of social discontent among Russians. According to the author, the phenomenon of discontent is multicomponent and has several dimensions: personal, socio-economic and civil-political, which is confirmed by the conditionality of social discontent by a complex of reasons. The results demonstrate the consistency of the research data in terms of measuring the social discontent of the Russian society, as well as a clear relationship with the level of its protest potential.
