Essence of notion «interpreter» in Russian criminal legal procedure

The article deals with an interpreter notion in the Russian criminal legal procedure. The author reviews various scientific opinions on the matter. The criteria constituting the essence of the interpreter notion are considered. The main criteria are the knowledge of the legal procedure language and the experience in forensic interpreting. Based on the undertaken analysis the author suggests amendments to the article 59 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation.
