The article presents an original hypothesis saying that there are different types of solo characteristic of an opera character. The author distinguishes five types of solo statement, such as manifesto, narrative, response experience, prayer, and cross-cutting solo scene. Each of these statement types represents a specific structural and semantic unity, allowing to build a comprehensive description of the character and to trace its transformation in the opera as a whole. The paper exemplifies the theses by Russian and foreign opera literature. The random choice of examples given confirms the universal relevance of the proposed hypothesis.
