Sonographic signs of endothelial dysfunction in adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus

Ultrasonography of the common carotid artery (CCA) in adolescents with different duration type 1 diabetes (T1D) was performed. Signs of endothelial dysfunction, manifested an increase in the thickness of intimamedia complex (IMT) and reduced the coefficient of elasticity, were detected when the duration of diabetes was more than 5 years. IMT increased significantly in the presence of hyperlipidemia, nephropathy stage of proteinuric and distal neuropathy. The deterioration of the elasticity of the arterial wall was observed in adolescents with nephropathy.
