The correlation of the notions “iskusstvo” and “krasota” / “art” and “beauty”

The article aimed to reveal the volume of the notions “iskusstvo” and “krasota” / “art” and “beauty” in the Russian and the English languages. The scientific novelty is that a complex approach to the study of the above-mentioned notions allowed to compare the results of etymological analysis of these lexemes, analyse their meanings. On the basis of the study of dictionaries and contexts there were revealed coinciding meanings. The comparative analysis of the words “iskusstvo” and “krasota” / “art” and “beauty” revealed the difference between the meanings’ volume. The study demonstrated that the volume of the notion «iskusstvo» (5 meanings) / “art” (16 meanings) doesn’t coincide with the volume of the notion “krasota” (6 meanings) / “beauty” (7 meanings).
