The article considers the correlation between the verbal and the visual in Wassily Kandinsky's theory of synthesis of arts and his stage composition “Yellow Sound”. The attitude of Kandinsky-theorist towards the word as an element of scenic art is revealed as contradicting his own literary practice. The analysis of the visual level of the “Yellow Sound” text proves the word to be a universal instrument of rendering integrally related to visual stage action and music and to act as the material of specific –indirectly related by literary form – not scenic synthesis of arts.
