A variety of ornamental sunflower Agat of VNIIMK breeding

In 2019, we submitted a variety of ornamental sunflower Agat into the State Commission on testing and protection of the breeding achievements of the Russian Federation. The variety was developed by crossing of a dwarf sample LD4 and a line LD11, with further self-pollination and individual selection by morphotype traits, with converging of a fertile line on CMS RIG. The main ornamental features of the variety Agat are: active accumulation of anthocyanin pigments in mesophyll of young leaves, stem, covering leaves; purple coloring of ray and tube flowers; large, bladdery, serrated in edges leaves; dwarf stature; compact habitus; prolonged vegetative period. An originator of the ornamental sunflower variety Agat is V.S. Pustovoit All-Russian Research Institute of Oil Crops (VNIIMK).
