A variety of ornamental sunflower Mazhor of VNIIMK breeding

In 2019, we submitted a variety of ornamental sunflower Mazhor into the State Commission on testing and protection of the breeding achievements of the Russian Federation. The variety was developed by crossing of an ornamental variety Plyushevy mishka and a line LD11, with further self-pollination and individual selection by morphotype traits, with converging of a fertile line on CMS RIG. The main ornamental features of the variety Mazhor are: yellow-red coloring of ray and tube flowers; light double inflorescence of a head; strong habitus; a large amount of inflorescences; prolonged vegetative period. An originator of the ornamental sunflower variety Mazhor is V.S. Pustovoit All-Russian Research Institute of Oil Crops (VNIIMK).
