A variety of ornamental sunflower Zhemchuzhny

Breeding of decorative sunflower in VNIIMK was started in the laboratory of genetics in 2008. During this time a collection of lines with an ornamental phenotype has been created. In 2017, a decorative variety Zhemchuzhny was submitted to the State Commission of Variety Trials. This variety was obtained by crossing a dwarf sample LD4 and the line VIR-721, further self-pollination and individual selection based on the morphotype, and converting the fertile line to the RIG CMS. The main decorative features of the variety Zhemchuzhny are: light yellow color of ray flowers; leaf with a light green color with a bluish tinge; short stature; compact single-headed habitus. The originator of the variety Zhemchuzhny is All-Russian Research Institute of Oil Crops by the name of Pustovoit V.S. (VNIIMK).
