The article reveals the characteristics of the new soft wheat variety, which was bred by crossing the regional plant breeding cultivar Omskaya 19 and its wild counterpart Egilopsyuvenalis (Thell.) Eig. The subject is listed in the state register of protected plant breeding achievements and approved for use in the Russian Federation (patent №. 7734, copyright certificate No. 60852 dated 02.03.2015). The cultivar is used for grain production in food industry. Variety - lutescens. The Omsk gold is a medium-late type variety, characterized by advanced resistance to hard smut, increased yield and high ecological stability. According to the originator, the grain yield of the variety equaled 2.63 t/ha, exceeding the standard by 0.66 t/ha. The advantages of the new variety arise from higher plant height (85.0 cm), the best productive bushiness (1.3 versus 1.2 in the standard), the finer grain spike (25.3 pieces, compared to the standard 20.5 pieces). The grains of the new variety have the best grain-unit (768.7 g/l), higher strengths of flour (454.6 ha) and volumetric yield of bread (971.7 ml) and total baking assessment (4.4 points). State variety testing proved the advantage of the Omsk gold over the regional varieties Gorky, Moskalensky, Shcherbakul and Cherlaksky.
