New sunflower variety Uspekh

The last year's work of the Laboratory of sunflower breeding, seed growing and crop management in the Siberian experimental station of the All-Russian research institute of oil crops by Pustovoit V.S. (Omsk region) resulted into development of a new early maturing highly productive variety Uspeh. A variety is created by the method of intervarietal hybridization between varieties Rodnik and Ermak with further individual selection and directed crosspolination of the best families at free flowering on isolated plots. According to the competitive variety trails results for 2016-2017, the variety Uspekh exceeded the standard variety Skorospely-87 by 5.4% on oil content in seeds, by 173 kg per ha on oil yield. The seeds yield is equal to the standard one, and a period from emergence to physiological maturity is eight days shorter. The variety Uspekh is characterized by the highest oil content in seeds and oil yield per a hectare compared to all sunflower varieties developed at the station. The variety Uspekh is included into the State Register of breeding achievements approved for production in the Western Siberian region from 2018.
